  • What is one question you hate to be asked? Explain.

    “How are you doing?” This is an empty question that gets a standard and equally empty response. Better to say hello and move into a real conversation.

  • Do you believe in fate/destiny?

    No. God created in us the ability to make choices. And choices have consequences.

  • What experiences in life helped you grow the most?

    There’s been so many! Recently it was surviving leukemia. The initial diagnosis was less than a month to live. Now three years later I look for opportunities to help others whose hope is being challenged.

  • Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.

    I completely remodeled our kitchen. I installed ceramic tile floors, quartz countertops, removed wallpaper, new paint, new backsplash, new appliances, new lighting, refaced cabinet doors, installed new cabinet hardware.

  • What advice would you give to your teenage self?

    Don’t do it!

  • Who are your favorite people to be around?

    My wife, children, and grandchildren

  • Share one of the best gifts you’ve ever received.

    I received the gift of life from prayers offered and excellent health care following being stricken by a very aggressive and deadly strain of leukemia. Today I’m celebrating three years following release from the hospital. I now serve as a volunteer at the cancer center where I was treated.

  • If you had the power to change one law, what would it be and why?

    The law of gravity so I can fly.

  • You get some great, amazingly fantastic news. What’s the first thing you do?

    I thank my Lord for the blessing then I share it with loved ones and friends.

  • How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

    Great question. If we have an eternal view of life then significant events are bumps in the road. We can learn from them and move on.
